Herbert A. Fleming
Memorial services for Herbert A. Fleming, 89, of Longview will be held at One-thirty O?clock P.M. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at the First Lutheran Church 3901 Bill Owens Parkway with Reverend Phil Fenton officiating. Mr. Fleming passed away Wednesday March 31, 2004 in a Longview hospital.
He was born September 25, 1914 in Rosemark, Tennessee to the late Boss Sylvester and Beulah Nettles Sylvester as well as his adoptive parents John Wesley Fleming and Dolly Tracy Fleming. Much of his life was serving his community. He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church of Damon, Texas where he served on the church council. Herb as everyone called him was a Mason, served on the Damon School Board for 10 years, was the first Fire Chief of Damon, a member of the Lions Club and developed a committee to get water and sewer to the area and helped to build the first fire station in Damon. When he retired in 1985, from his Sinclair/Arco station, he and his wife, the former Martha Wruck, whom he married on December 21, 1937 moved to Longview. He was the world?s most patient husband and father.
He is survived by his wife Martha Fleming of Kilgore; three daughters and their spouses, Sandra and Irvin Foytik of El Campo, Texas; Diann and Dr. John Greifenkamp of Longview; Rhonda and Richard Freese of Tucson, Arizona; three grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Jonathan Greifenkamp and wife Jillian of Galveston, Texas; Jennifer Hay and husband Dr. Carter Hay of Tallahassee, Florida; Ryan Soape of Tucson, Arizona; three great-grandchildren, Austin Barrett Greifenkamp, Thomas Edward Greifenkamp and Hawthorne Fleming Hay.
Memorials may be made to the First English Lutheran Church of Damon, Texas, the Damon Volunteer Fire Department, Greater Hospice of Longview or to the First Lutheran Church of Longview.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, Texas.
