Helen Heffler Silverman's Obituary
Helen Heffler Silverman, a native of East Texas and resident of Longview since 1939, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 15, 2014. She was 94.
Born in Tyler on May 17, 1920 to Mose and Rose Heffler, Helen was married for 55 years to Abe Silverman, who preceded her in death in 1995. Helen and Abe managed Silver’s Shoe Store in downtown Longview and were founding members of Temple Emanu-El.
Known for her wonderful sense of humor, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Helen loved to cook and make delicious baked goods for her family and friends.
Helen is survived by her son Barry (Nancy Pierce) Silverman of Mobile, AL; daughter Lana (Stephen) Royal of Birmingham AL; grandchildren Scott (Deena) Silverman of Austin, TX, Stacey (Grant) Shostak of St. Louis, MO, Russin (Jill) Royal of Chicago, IL, and Asher (Julie) Royal of Atlanta, GA; and great-grandchildren, Aaron and Connor Silverman, Morgan, Payton, and Carson Shostak, and Ari and Remy Royal.
The family wishes to thank her long-time caregivers, Alicia Kolk, Re Burton, Becky Sheffield, Shirley Brooks and Adriana Malina.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 1205 Eden Drive, Longview, TX 75605. Burial will follow at Memory Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Temple Emanu-El, P.O Box 6511, Longview, Texas, 75608-6511 or to a charity of your choice.
