Helen Bennett Reynolds' Obituary
Obituary for Helen Bennett Reynolds
Helen Bennett Reynolds, 80, of Longview passed away on May 11, 2018 after a long battle with breast cancer. Helen was born on October 6, 1937 in Pittsburg, Texas to Warren and Myrtle Bennett. After graduating from Pittsburg High School, she attended business school in Tyler, Texas. She was a homemaker for many years, then worked with her husband, Jim, at their family business, Reynolds Bookkeeping and Tax Service.
Her greatest joys in life were her family and friends. She had a servant heart and spent her time helping others as often as she could. She enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events and spent hours at softball fields and track meets across Texas. She attended Mobberly Baptist Church and enjoyed being a member of the Prime Time Bunch Sunday School Class. She volunteered for many years delivering meals for the Meals on Wheels program and ministering to the women at the House of Hope in Longview.
She and her husband Jim enjoyed traveling and camping with friends and family in their RV and also had the opportunity to travel abroad to Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Mexico. Helen’s favorite place to be was the beach. Every year after their busy tax season ended on April 16th, she and Jim would travel to the beach in South Texas to spend the month of May with friends and Jim’s sister and brother in law, Jim and Shan Disman.
Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. If she knew you, she was praying for you. She was a vibrant, humorous person and lived each day to the fullest!
She was preceded in death by her parents: Warren and Myrtle Bennett; her husband of 58 years, Jim Reynolds; and eight siblings: Glenn Bennett, Hazel Spearman, Hartzel Spratt, Billie Smith, Faye Scudder, Mildred Hughey, Nelwyn Hudgins, and Tim Bennett.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Baker and husband Dennis of Longview; three grandchildren, Alicia Kerr and husband J. D. of The Colony, Clay and friend Caitlin Lackey of Lubbock, and Whitney Donohue and husband Matt of Denton; four great grandchildren, Carter and Charlotte Kerr and Jacob and Adam Donohue; her very special friend and goddaughter, Jimene Conn of Lawrenceville, Georgia; and many dear nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of Summer Meadows and Heartsway Hospice for the excellent care during the last months of Helen’s days on earth.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Rader Funeral Home of Longview, Texas with the Rev. Gary Page officiating. The family will receive friends and loved ones for a time of visitation one hour prior to the service at 1:00 pm at the Chapel at Rader Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the House of Hope, 3011 W. Marshall Ave., Longview, TX 75604.
