Helen Marie Mays' Obituary
Helen Marie Ferguson Mays went to be with the Lord on June 21, 2018 in Longview. She was born May 9, 1925 in Longview, Texas to Loyd Andy and Johnnie Pearl Ferguson. She graduated from Judson High School. She lived most of her life in Longview & Lufkin, Texas, working as a secretary and business manager. Her last years were spent as a caregiver for Peggy Draper in Lufkin.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd Andy and Johnnie Pearl Ferguson; brothers, Walter Henry & Elmer Ferguson; sister, Johnnie Beth Leath; husband, Ralph D. Mays; and two granddaughters, Lisa Michelle Futch Landers and Jennifer Ann Futch.
She is survived by her sister, Myra Nell Salter; sisters-in-law Georgia Ferguson Beasley and Gevernia Posey; Gevernia’s daughter, Dale Castleberry; brothers-in-law, Bill Leath and Bob Beasley; two marries sons, Ray & wife Judy Futch, Walter & wife Jan Futch; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and special friend Paul Draper, whom she dearly loved and spent many hours sharing meals and wonderful stories with.
She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church of Lufkin, Texas, where her son was a minister for many years and where she had many friends. Helen loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. Hours were spent with the family singing at Aunt Sissy’s house.
Helen had many special friends & family who have taken time to visit her and keep her spirits up that she dearly loved: Teresa and Robert Powdrill, Georgia and Bob Beasley, Bill Leath, Paul Draper and her roommate Peggy.
Also thanks to the Clairmont Nursing Home who have taken such loving care of her.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11am in the Winterfield Cemetery on Tryon Rd in Longview, Texas
