Harvey Fredrick Blankenstein's Obituary
Graveside services for Harvey Blankenstein, 77, of Longview will be held at 2 PM Thursday, May 7, at Rose Mound Cemetery in Waco, Texas with Reverend Marv Whittenburg officiating. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Blankenstein passed away Sunday evening in a local nursing home. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Harvey was born on July 31, 1931 in Elm Mott, Texas. He began a music career in Waco at an early age of 16 years. Harvey owned and operated Southgate Music Store for many years, teaching lots of Waco youngster's guitar lessons. Harvey went into the insurance business in 1970 working 5 years in Waco before being transferred to Longview. He retired as District Manager from Mutual of Omaha after 25 years and went back to his first love of music opening Blankenstein Music. He retired 3 years ago due to illness. He was also a member of Northside Church of Christ in Longview and served there as a Song Leader and Elder.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Paul John and Anna Blankenstein; 3 sisters, Margaret Nix, Lucille Petty and Rose Marie Blankenstein.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Bobbi Blankenstein of Longview; four children and their spouses, William "Pepsi" and Dorothy Cook of China Spring, Texas, Joe Paul and Pam Cook of Lorena, Texas, Sharon Blankenstein of Waco, Texas, and Lisa and Bobby Joe Salter of White Oak, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Melba Blankenstein of Waco, Texas; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Blankenstein's grandchildren, Lance Cook, David Cook, Aaron Cook, Kirsten Cook, Heather Salter, and Celia Salter.
The family request that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association Northeast Texas Chapter, 3613 South Broadway Avenue, Tyler, Texas 75701.
