Harrell Wilburn "Bud" Walling
On Monday, December 23, 2008, Harrell Wilburn "Bud" Walling of Lake Cherokee went to be with the Lord. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 26, at Summerfield United Methodist Church, Longview with the Reverend Randy Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park Cemetery in Palestine at 3 p.m. He passed away Monday in a Longview nursing facility after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Mr. Walling was born April 1, 1920 in Elkhart, TX to Willis and Jessie Walling. He was a retired brakeman for the Southern Pacific Railroad and also was in the construction industry for many years. He was a U. S. Navy veteran who served his country proudly in the South Pacific during WWII.
Mr. Walling was a member of the American Legion and Summerfield United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Rita Walling; his parents; his brothers, Joe Walling, Lloyd Walling and Calvin Walling; and his sister Velma Ward.
His sweet smile and kind and loving ways will be missed by those left to cherish his memory. His wife Margaret of Lake Cherokee; daughters, Denise Nipper and husband Robert of Gilmer, Pat McGarity and husband Mike of Dayton and Becky Ferguson and husband Mike of Longview; grandchildren, Gary Peek, II and Cindy, Kimberly Smith and Johnny, James Peek and Michele, Staci Tulley and Wade, Lori McGarity and Holly St. John, also, Andy Ferguson and Casey, Aaron Ferguson and Amanda, Stuart Nipper and Melanie and Robin Hicks and Jake; and 16 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their heart felt gratitude to the staff of Whispering Pines Nursing Facility and Kinsman Hospice for their dedication and tender loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kinsman Hospice, 219 W. Butler, Gilmer, TX 75644.
