Funeral services for Harold P. Wesson, age 82 of Henderson, will be held Saturday July 7, 2012 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Gillespie officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Wesson died Thursday July 5, 2012 in a Longview Hospital.
Harold was born March 18, 1930 in Henderson to Wilmer G. & Hassie Wesson. He retired from RW McKinney & TL James Construction after 36 years of service where he was a road construction supervisor. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Jackie Murphy Wesson who died in 1990 after 34 years of marriage. Also preceding him death were his parents, sister Corine Wesson Clark, brother-in-law Russell Clark, and nephew John Blanton,
Harold loved his family and friends. An alumni of Gaston High School, Harold attended the school reunions annually and had on occasion actually hosted the event for his Class. Growing up the son of independent farmers, Harold was introduced to the art of gardening at a young age. Throughout his life Harold dutifully planed a garden and tended an orchard each Spring. In his later years, however, the size of his garden declined from twelve to a more manageable three acres. Those around him reaped the benefits of his crop as Harold typically gave away the majority of the fruits, nuts and vegetables he harvested each year. Besides raising a garden, through the years Harold also raised livestock including cows, horses, goats, pigs, ducks, geese, emus and his beloved dogs.
Even at 82 years of age, Harold practiced what he preached. He got up early each morning and put in a full days labor before going to bed each night. He valued hard work, honesty and integrity. Harold believed in being fair, putting others needs before your own, doing what was right and loving the Lord. Harold was a good man, husband and father. His illness caught everyone by surprise, his death even more so. Those who knew Harold were all the better for having had him in their lives. He will be sorely missed by those left behind.
