Hamilton Anderson Miller "Hamy"'s Obituary
Mr. Hamilton Anderson Miller, 91, of Longview, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2016. A funeral service will be held in Longview at Alpine Presbyterian Church at 2 PM on Tuesday, July 5th, with the Rev. Gordon Blackman Jr. and Dr. Roger Kiser officiating. A visitation at the church will follow the funeral. A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, on Wednesday, July 6th, at 10:30, with Rev. Richard Wooten officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
Hamy was born on August 25, 1924 in Cranford, New Jersey to Clarence and Mary Ada Miller. He graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. While there, he was the goalkeeper for the Cornell's Ivy League lacrosse team, and he was also a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Hamy proudly served his country in World War II, with duty in France, Italy and northern Africa. Last October he went to Washington, D.C. on an Honor Flight for Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine, the mother of his children, his sister, Roberta Brannin, his granddaughter, Catherine Brooke Zeigler, and his second wife, Helen.
Hamy worked for ARA Food Service at Baylor University in Waco for over 25 years, then moved to Longview and was the Manager of Food Services for Longview ISD until his retirement. During retirement, he directed his talents toward making wooden toys for the children in local hospitals.
He is survived by his son, Jimmy Miller and wife, Rosanne, of Dallas; his daughters, Chris Zeigler and husband, David, of Lumberton, North Carolina; Patty Jistel and husband, Joe, of Austin; and Mary Catherine Vasek and husband, Mark, of Wylie. He was also the proud grandparent of 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Brenda High and Pam Donner.
His family would like to express their gratitude to Buckner Retirement Center for their outstanding care of our father over the last 3 years and to HeartsWay Hospice of Northeast Texas. We would also like to thank Billie Jean Reeme and Roberta Young for their friendship, companionship, and care, which brought Hamy and his family an amazing amount of love and grace and happiness during his final months.
