Gwendolyn Helen Shaw Bristow's Obituary
Gwendolyn Helen Shaw Bristow, 83, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 19, 2020. She was born July 7, 1937 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Susie Miller Shaw and Robert Raleigh Shaw.
A family graveside service was conducted on Tuesday, December 22 at Gardens of Memory in Minden, Louisiana
Gwen attended Harding College, where she met Benny Bristow, her loving husband of 59 years. For almost six decades, Gwen served alongside Benny in support of full-time ministry throughout Texas, Arkansas, Alabama and Louisiana. Benny and Gwen founded Camp Deer Run, an east Texas youth Bible camp.
Gwen was a gifted baker and cake decorator, making beautiful wedding and birthday cakes. She was also a Mary Kay cosmetics consultant for a time period. She served as an elementary and junior high school substitute teacher and taught a high school girls Bible class at Madison Academy in Huntsville, Alabama. She also authored an inspirational book, From Pigtails to Wedding Bells, written specifically for adolescent girls.
She is survived by her loving family: daughters, Corretta and husband Tony Lawrence, Alesa and husband Bradford Edgar; and son Lorin and wife Alecia Bristow; grandchildren, Mark Lawrence, Micah Lawrence, Grace Edgar, Colin Edgar, Victoria Bristow and Alexandra Bristow; and great grandchild, Alyssa Lawrence.
