Gussie Chastain Hill
Longview – Services for Gussie Chastain Hill, 84, of Longview will be held Wednesday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Mobberly Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Schulik officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Mausoleum. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m..
Mrs. Hill was born January 23, 1925 to G.C. and Lucille Thompson Chastain. She was a graduate of Marshall High School and was a medical secretary at Harmon General Hospital in Longview during World War II, which was located on the property where LeTourneau University now stands.
When the war ended, she went to work at LeTourneau Technical Institute as a secretary to the chief controller. It was there that she met the love of her life, James E. Jim Hill, one of the first students at LeTourneau studying electrical maintenance. They were married March 16, 1947, and after over 53 years of marriage, he predeceased her in 2000. She was also predeceased by her parents and a brother, Thomas Chastain.
After retirement, she and her husband had a craft business under the logo "Dear Gussie Designs" setting up a booth at Canton Trade Days, craft malls and attending craft shows all over the state.
In the past several years she has worked as a volunteer at Good Shepherd Medical Center. She also did volunteer work at her beloved Mobberly Baptist Church working with Young at Heart, Faith Ministry and Homebound visitation.
Survived by sons, Steve Hill and wife Marla of Lebec, California and Mark Hill and wife Jane of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren Erica Keithly and husband Ernie of Columbia, MO, Adria Terrazas of Bakersfield, CA, James Hill and wife Macy of Fort Worth, Dustin Hill of Jacksonville, TX, Elizabeth Hill of Washington D.C., Timothy Hill of Bakersfield, CA and John Hill of Fort Worth; four great grandchildren, Bethany and Andrew Keithly of Columbia, MO and George and Charles Hill of Fort Worth; sister Gladys Barton of Marshall, brother William Chastain and wife Sylvia of Marshall, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Pall bearers will be Dustin Hill, Timothy Hill, James Hill, John Hill, Bill Barton, Bill
Parrish and Joe Chastain. Honorary pall bearers will be members of The Prime Time
Sunday School class at Mobberly Baptist Church.
Memorials may made to the Senior Adult Ministry of Mobberly Baptist Church.
