Gus Weldon Davis' Obituary
Gus Weldon Davis was born September 5, 1924 to his parents Gus Alvin and Myrtle Pike Davis in Gary, TX, and passed away on December 23 of this year. Gus was a naval petty officer yeoman during WWII aboard the carrier USS Kwajalein in the South Pacific. He served from 1942 thru 1945. After the war he attended Stephen F. Austin University and graduated in 1949. He was an agent for the Internal Revenue Service for 9 years, then opened his own CPA office in Longview until his retirement in 1978. Upon Retirement he and his wife Margaret moved to Las Colinas in 1981 where he was an avid traveler and sports fan, with season tickets to both the Rangers and the Cowboys.
Gus is preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Myrtle Davis, his brothers; Eldon and J.C. Davis, sister, Madeline Lewis, the mother of his children, Jewel Battle Davis, and his wife, Margaret Estes Davis.
He is survived by brothers; Al Davis and wife Maxine, and Bill Davis and wife Renee’, his sister, Theda Brittian Phillips, sisters-in-law; Annie Grace Davis and Joyce Davis. His children; David W Davis and wife Patrice Savage Davis, Dana Willett and Dorrie Davis. Gus is also survived by his grandchildren; Bill Willett, Colby Davis, Matthew Davis and Heidi Davis and numerous nieces and nephews. The Pallbearers for the service will be Bill Willett, Colby Davis, Matthew Davis, Sidney Shelton, Stuart Davis and Stan Davis.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregivers for many years of love and care; Doris Gray, Keon Hancock, Loretta Beauchamp, Cynthia Wright, Errin Bells, Antonio Lang, Teresa Hancock, and to his devoted friend and advisor John Adams.
Services for Gus will be held Thursday, December 31 at 2pm at Enterprise Baptist Church in Gary, TX and a committal will follow the service at Corinth Cemetery, just north of Timpson, TX. There will be a visitation prior to the service starting at 1pm.
