G. S. Pete Pitt's Obituary
Services for G. S. ?Pete? Pitt, 79, of Longview, TX was born April 2, 1924 in Robertson County, TN to Robert Wesley and Pearl Pitt. He passed away at his home, surrounded by his loved ones Saturday evening, May 31.
Mr. Pitt had lived in Longview since 1934. He worked as a carpenter and in various manufacturing jobs. He built a home for his wife and children in
Lakeport, TX in 1951 and it was from that home in which he was taken by the Lord.
Mr. Pitt was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lovie Barnes of Springfield, TN; two brothers, Homer Pitt and J. R. Pitt of Longview.
Mr. Pitt is survived by a loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn Spicer Pitt; five sisters, Hazel Baggett of Tyler, Jewel Cowling and her husband, Dewy, of Bryan, Margie Winters of Springfield, TN, Robbie Fowler and her husband
Harold and Mable Bradshaw and her husband, Max, all of Longview; four
children, Roy Pitt and wife, Carol of Texarkana, Rose Elia and husband, Tommy of Tyler, Diane Henry and husband, James of Splendora and Bonnie Sypert and husband Laurie of Liberty City; beloved grandchildren, Cathy Boyd and husband, Pat, John Elia, Graden Pitt and wife, Carla, Buddy Sypert, Holly and Cody Henry of Splendora; and four great grandchildren, Chynna Castillo, Kali Elia, J. T. Elia, Trinity Elia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Pitt was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. From old friends that he fished, hunted or went to the races with, to coworkers and new friends that he danced with, everyone enjoyed his generosity and his wonderful sense of humor. He took in two sons-in-law, which had not had the closeness of a father and shared his time and wisdom and made them feel as if they were his own. His grandchildren knew him simply as ?Pepa?, but with that name came fun and frolics that only he could provide.
It has been said, many a time by many people, if you ever met Mr. Pitt you would never forget him. He definitely stood out in the crowd.
?Until we meet again you will be remembered fondly and missed desperately.?
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, June 3, 2003 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd., with Brother James Gaylon Walton officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening,
June 2, from 6 until 8 PM.
