Grace Evelyn Rains' Obituary
Grace Evelyn Rains, a Godly woman, went to be with the Lord Tuesday August 7, 2018. She lived a long, full life and impacted everyone’s life who knew her. Born on March 18, 1926 in Tyler, Texas, she was the third of eight children born to Otis and Lottie Taylor. Growing up in Tyler, she met the love of her life, Joe Ervin Rains. They were married very young and enjoyed a 72 year marriage. Joe and Grace were blessed with three daughters, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
During her lifetime, Grace loved spending time with her family, cooking, sewing, sharing stories from her childhood and singing her favorite hymns. She was very giving and always had a kind word for every person who crossed her path.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Otis & Lottie Taylor; husband Joe Rains; daughter, Linda Lou Ferguson; sisters Dorothy Campbell, Virginia Jolly, Maureen Baird; and brother, Quinton Taylor.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Dorothy McAuley & husband John; daughter, Patricia Hutcheson & husband, William; grandson’s Randy Ferguson & wife, JoLee, Clint McAuley & wife, Carly; Justin Hutcheson & wife, Elizabeth; granddaughter, Amanda Hutcheson; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Luke, Sara, Peter, Dean, & Claire; brother, Calvin Taylor & wife, Earnestine; sister, Geneva Lehnis; and sister, Patsy Ezelle.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the loving care and comfort Grace received from Shirley Brooks, Charlotte Denton, Robin Plunk, Lana Escalante, Compass Hospice of East Texas, and the entire Alpine House staff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace’s favorite charities; Highway 80 Rescue Mission and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Celebration of Life services will be held Friday, August 10 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, Longview at 2 PM with visitation at 1 PM. Graveside services will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
