Gloria L. George's Obituary
Funeral services for Gloria L. George, 79, of Henderson, are set for 10:30 AM Monday, March 26, 2007 at the Rader funeral chapel in Henderson with Rev. Bill Kuykendall officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home.
Mrs. George died Saturday, March 24, 2007 at her residence.
Gloria George was born in Palestine , Texas, on July 23, 1927 to Fred and Ollie Simpson. During the Depression, the family moved to Diboll, Texas, where her father worked as a butcher. On May 1, 1946, she married Willie Cullen George, who had just returned from World War II. The couple moved to Henderson in 1954 to manage and operate Lacy?s Cotton Gin which they later purchased. Mrs. George was the office manager for the gin and later for Farmer?s Feed and Supply, selling Texo Feed. In 1972, she became a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and was administrator of Southwood Convalescent Center for twenty-two years. She was also a longtime supporter of the Rusk County Youth Project Show, and served on the Board of Directors of Texas Bank.
She will be remembered by her family and friends as a person who always had a kind word for everyone and a positive outlook on life. She was devoted to her family, and especially her grandchildren, going to great lengths to arrange her busy schedule to be with them.
Mrs. George was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Arwine Simpson of Lufkin
She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Willie C. George of Henderson; sister Joyce Hatcher of Henderson; daughters Virginia Irwin and husband Billy Wayne of Henderson and Kay Segura and husband Richard of Pflugerville; five grandchildren, Casey Irwin and wife Emma of Dallas, Kati Irwin of Park City, Utah, and Trey, Will, and Jenny Segura of Pflugerville. A few months ago she had the joy of holding and celebrating Christmas with her only great granddaughter, Emma Frances Irwin.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Trey Segura, Will Segura, Casey Irwin and also Scotty Cawthon, Bobby Davis, Troy Williams, Gene McCauley, and Bill Redden.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Simpson, Jimmy George, Jerry Harris and the Officers of Texas Bank.
The family expresses sincere gratitude to her caregivers, Tajuana Dennis, Michelle Means, and Cassandra Baxter for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Rusk County Children?s Advocacy in Henderson, Texas.
