Gloria June Risk Rogers Green's Obituary
June Rogers Green went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on November 19, 2023. A graveside service will be held at Grace Hill Cemetery in Longview on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 3.00 PM. Arrangements are provided by Rader Funeral Home.
She was born on June 21, 1924 in Niles, Oklahoma to Lucien Edwin and Cora Avis Risk. She was raised in a Christian home with 7 brothers and sisters. While attending the University of Missouri, she met and married her husband and eventually settled in East Texas with their four children. It did not take long for her to find a church to raise her children in. She joined First Christian Church in 1958 which soon became her second home. She began teaching the Kindergarten Sunday School class, made choir robes for the Angel choir, fed weekly snack suppers to the Junior High and Senior High youth groups and worked on the Minister’s Aide committee. As the secretary to Gregg County Judge R.E. “Peppy” Blount she became involved with the Legal Secretaries Association, serving several years as the President of the local Legal Secretaries Association. She was also committed to Habitat for Humanity, physically helping build and then serving as President of the local chapter for years. June was also committed to Longview Community Ministries, Food Box. She worked each Friday for about 10 years and always knew which needed items she could add to her own grocery list. She had always felt the need to serve and care for others and that she did. Church and family always came first but did make time for whatever sport the grandchildren were involved in.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John C. Rogers and her second husband, Lewis Green whom she married later in life. She was also preceded in death by two sons, George Robert and Paul Franklin Rogers, her parents, as well as three brothers, Lowell, Wishey, and Bob Risk and three sisters, Beth, Alice, and Nila and many special friends from the Cornerstone Class at First Christian.
She is survived by one son, Clay Rogers of Austin, TX, one daughter, Gloria Willeford, of Longview, TX and one brother, Marion Risk, of Perrsyburg, OH, 5 grandchildren, (who lovingly called her “Nanny”) Trey Willeford and wife Mandy of Long Branch, TX, Clay Willeford and wife Linda of New Diana, TX, Jennifer Willeford Gossett of Tyler, TX, Emily Rogers of Boston MA, Meredith Rogers of Alexandria, VA and one special daughter-in-law, Debra Viadero-Rogers Case of Worton, MD. She is also survived by her precious great-grandchildren, Cole (Megan), Carson (Makayla), Canon Willeford, Lake Willeford, Sage Gossett (Cheznee), Travis Willeford (Dominique) and JonForrest Willeford (Yanni) and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express our grateful appreciation to our extended family at Pine Tree Lodge Nursing Center for their loving care for the past several years and letting her think she had won all those quarters at Bingo. Also a special thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice for stepping in and giving mom their gentle and loving care.
In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to the First Christian Church Children’s Department, to Longview Habitat for Humanity or to Longview Community Ministries, Food Box.
