Glenn Bumgardner's Obituary
Glenn "T-Bone" Bumgardner
East Texas lost one of its most beloved entertainers Friday the 10th of January.
Glenn, known to thousands as T-Bone, was a popular radio d.j.; sportscaster, en-tertainer and singer. More importantly, he was a good son, brother, and father. His legacy will be that all he touched, he made better.
T-Bone toured extensively as a singer in the late?70?s and ?80?s. He entertained from Las Vegas to Atlantic City, from the Miami Fountainbleu Hotel to the Indian-apolis 500. He always returned to East Texas because it was here he felt at peace. T-Bone came in off the road to be with his daughter Brooke who was the light of his life.
T-Bone entertained continuously throughout East Texas. He sang for many years at the Canton Restaurant and club in Longview. A celebration of his life will be hosted there on Wednesday, January 15, from 6-10 P.M.
He was active in youth sports, especially baseball. Giving of himself to others seemed second nature to him. He coached and taught the game of baseball to countless numbers of youth. T-Bone also was a sports director and sports talk show host for several radio stations. He loved announcing games, and he surprised those who knew him as an entertainer with his consummate knowledge of baseball and football.
T-Bone was preceded in this journey by his father and mother, Charles and Joan Bumgardner, and his brother Monty Bumgardner. He is survived by his daughter Brooke Lynn Bumgardner of Longview; brothers, Charles Earle Bum-gardner of Longview; Larry Sapp of Aurora, Colorado; sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Dale Jordan of Kilgore; grandmother E. B. Sallette of Jacksonville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. T-Bone?s many friends were truly his family as well.
Glenn was born in Memphis, Tennessee on June 14, 1954. The family came to Kilgore when Glenn was 14. He graduated from Kilgore High School and Kilgore Junior College.
Funeral services will be held Two O'clock p.m. Tuesday January 14, 2002 at the Lighthouse Church 5925 W. Marshall Avenue Longview, with Reverend Tommy Brasher officiating. Burial will follow in Kilgore Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Monday January 13, 2002 from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M.
