Glenda Hagler Wood's Obituary
Glenda Hagler Wood, 80, of Longview, passed away on December 2, 2025, at Longview Regional Hospital. Family and friends will gather for a time of visitation on Thursday, December 4th, from 5-7pm, at Rader Funeral Home. A service to honor her life will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 3pm, in the Chapel at Rader. She was a native of Gregg County and graduated from Pine Tree High School in 1963. After high school she attended the University of North Texas where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Spanish in 1966 and a Master of Library Science Degree in 1967.
After working in Richardson ISD for a couple of years, she returned to Longview where she taught Reading, English, and Spanish at Forest Park Middle School before becoming librarian at Pine Tree High School, her alma mater. Glenda remained at Pine Tree for 28 years before retiring from the public school system. Some of her happiest years were when she was Head Coach of the Pine Tree High School Academic Decathlon program from 1985-1992. She was a “surrogate mom” to her decathlon “children” and she loved each and every one of them dearly.
Following retirement, Glenda was hired as Volunteer Director at Gregg County Historical Museum in April 2004. In addition to her duties as Volunteer Director, she also enjoyed researching history questions for inquiring visitors as she too learned more of Gregg County History. She resigned 4 years later in April 2008 to spend more time with her grandchildren.
She served in several local organizations including Ark-La-Tex Chapter of ARMA Secretary, Longview Community Theatre Board of Directors Secretary, DAR Captain William Young Chapter Registrar and Chairperson of the Bettina Gray Scholarship, UDC, R. B. Levy Chapter, Recorder of Crosses, and Pine Tree Alumni Association President.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. Hagler and Lucille Elizabeth Moore Hagler.
She is survived by her daughter, Angela Wood McFarland, and her husband, Paul Noel McFarland. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Tyler Wood McFarland and his wife, Kendall; Hallie Faye McFarland Nelson and her husband, Jonathan; Ashley Noelle McFarland and her fiancé, Brendon Cole; and Lainey Faith McFarland; and one great-granddaughter, Emmy Faye Nelson.
In addition, she is survived by her sister, Betty Hagler Sistrunk, and her husband, Sid Sistrunk; her nephew, Traye Conway, and his wife, Jeanette; her niece, Shelley Conway Hilliard; many great-nephews; as well as her cousins, Jo Etta Wright Richardson and Nina Wright Walker, and her husband, Lanny.
