Gladys Stone's Obituary
Gladys Faye Avitts Stone was born in Hazard, Kentucky on July 16, 1939, and passed away in Longview, Texas on July 23, 2024. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Abby Brown Avitts, her eleven siblings, and her granddaughter, Amanda Stone.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Glenn R. Stone, Sr. Her sons, Glenn Stone, Jr. and wife Mary Kay and Charles Stone and wife Felesha. Grandchildren: Mason Stone and wife Tausha, Lauren Stone Watkins and husband Levi, and Charles Dalton Stone. She is also survived by her Great Grandchildren: Maci Stone, Kayleigh Stone, Myles Stone, Spencer Stone, Maverick Stone Watkins, and Daisy Faye Stone Watkins.
Born in Hazard, Kentucky Gladys moved to Texas at the age of 12. She graduated from Friendswood High School, class of 1958, and after high school she attended Friends Bible College in Kansas where she excelled at Tennis winning first place in multiple tournaments. After college she worked as a Respiratory Therapist at U.T. Chest Hospital in Tyler, TX. Gladys enjoyed many things in life, singing in her church Choir for many years, was a Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and was a delegate for the Republican Convention. She also just enjoyed being outdoors and being at the lake sitting in her chair. Gladys lived a full and blessed life and will be missed by all who knew her.
A visitation for Gladys will be held Wednesday, July 24 between 6 and 8 PM in the evening at Rader Funeral Home of Longview. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 26 at 11 AM at Friends Church Cemetery in Friendswood, TX
