Gladys Ross Davis' Obituary
DAVIS, GLADYS ROSS SMITH. Born November 15, 1912 in Memphis, Tennessee, Gladys Ross was a Dallasite most of her life. A graduate of Sunset High School, she attended S.M.U. and Texas Woman?s University. An informal student all her life, Gladys focused her keen intellect upon the stock market beginning in the 1950?s and became an early-day believer in high-tech stocks, especially if they were based in Texas! For this lover of all things British, the trips she and her husband, Dick, made to the British Isles in the 1980?s were dreams come true. Before she and Dick moved to Longview, Texas in 1990 they were long-time members of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, where they served two terms as President of the Highlanders? Class. After their move, they joined First Presbyterian Church of Longview. Gladys also was active for many years in the Park Cities RotaryAnns. Her strong interest in performing arts and visual arts, led to her long-time support of the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, the Symphony, performance groups, and the Summer Musicals. Gladys passed away July 21st in Longview. She and Dick had been married 56 years when he preceded her in death in 1995. She recently lost her son, Richard Warren Davis. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bill Bankston, and their sons Davis and Drew, of Longview. She is also survived by her daughter, Diane Strader of Albuquerque, her grandchildren Trey and Anne Strader of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and her great-grandson, James Strader of Santa Fe.
