Gladys Moody McLendon's Obituary
Services for Gladys Moody McLendon, 87, will be held at 4 PM Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview with the Rev. Newton Hambrick officiating and L. W. Holman with the eulogy. Special music will be by Traci Owings. Entombment will follow at Memory Park Cemetery Mausoleum.
Mrs. McLendon passed away April 28, 2004 in Longview after a long illness.
She was born March 30, 1917, in Stroud, Oklahoma, and was one of fourteen children. She graduated from Stroud High School and attended Kilgore College. On September 16, 1939, she married her loving husband, Joseph Franklin McLendon. He preceded her in death in 1988 after 49 years of marriage. She was an executive secretary for General Motors Corporation for 25 years before her retirement.
Mrs. McClendon was a longtime member of the Cornerstone Class of First Christian Church of Longview where she taught Sunday school in her younger years and was active in the Corner Workshop after her retirement. She was also a member of High Hopes Garden Club. She was devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family with whom she spent many happy hours and always possessed a gracious and positive spirit that won her the love and admiration of all who knew her.
Her survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Don Petty of Longview and Jodie and Charles Holman of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Scott Norman and his wife, Monique of Austin; Jason Holman and his wife, Jennifer of Cypress; Carrie Westbrook and her husband, Mike of Pearland; Laura Hennessee and her husband, Chad of Austin; and Leslie Petty of Longview; three great grandchildren, Jack and Ben Norman of Austin and Jordan Holman of Cypress. Her surviving siblings include Hubert Moody of Robstown, Texas; Jake Moody of McAlister, Oklahoma; Paul Moody of Oklahoma City; Otha Nelson of Longview and Virginia Piepke of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Friday evening from 6 PM until 8 PM.
