Geraldene Shaffner's Obituary
Funeral services for Geraldene Shaffner, 82, of Oak Hill, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 30, 2010, at the Lakeview Baptist Church on FM 2011 with Rev. Ted White officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Henderson.
Mrs. Shaffner died Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the Summer Meadows Nursing Home on Longview.
She was born January 21, 1928 in Oak Hill to Walter Glen and Erma Watson. She had been a resident of Rusk County all of her life. After graduation from high school, she entered nurses training at Herman Memorial Hospital in Houston, Tx. Upon graduation she returned to later work for Dr. Clanton at Markham Hospital as his nurse. After 15 years she went to work for Henderson Memorial Hospital for 15 years. She retired in 1982-83 after 33 years as a registered nurse.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband of 62 years, James Oliver Shaffner who died March 15, 2010; and a sister Helen Stevenson.
Surviving is her son, James Kenneth Shaffner of Longview; daughters, Karen Morris of the Oak Hill Community, and Patricia Aiken and husband Dewayne of the Oak Hill Community; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Howell, Michael Aiken, Gary Hale, Terry Whitaker, Billy Zager, Bobby Zager, Mike Ferris, and Chris Shaffner.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Summer Meadows Nursing Home , especially Susan, Terri, Beverly, Mattie, Ramona and Teresa for all of their loving care.
