Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by the Hallsville Masonic Lodge. The Family will recieve friends Thursday from 1-2 PM at the cemetery prior to the service.
Gerald was born on March 8, 1960, to Albert Eugene and Jarrell Dean Welch in Brenham, TX. He departed this earth at his home on Tuesday, May 28, 2013.
Gerald's family farmed for many years in the Brazos Bottoms and the Robinson County area. He graduated from Calvert High School in 1978. He worked in the oilfield service industry for over 30 years. Whomever he was working for at that particular time, he could persuade and produce the best service possible and he would be very convincing when he needed to!
Gerald's son, Gerald Wayne Welch was born in May, 1987, and soon became his daddy's co-pilot. Gerald was an avid duck hunter for many years and in the last several years, he pre-occupied himself with golf...like, I mean every day. He had developed a new relationship with his golf pro, Trey Griffith, not only monetarily but with a genuine friendship.
Gerald moved to Hallsville in 2002, and married his soul mate on June 1, 2002. There was never a dull moment between the two...it was always a contest who could aggravate who the most. Gerald was one of the most caring and loving individuals around and he would have given the shirt off his back if you needed it.
Gerald also had other loves in his life: His dogs, Dexter, his black lab who will be buried with him. His four Bichons at home were his latest companions, especially his baby girl, Tara.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Laura of Hallsville; his son, Gerald Wayne Welch and wife, Chelsea of Madisonville; step-sons, Judson Ashmore and Spencer Ashmore of Hallsville; mother and step-father, Jarrell Dean and David Bates of Hearne; twin brother, Gene and wife Glenda of Boyner; brother, Glen and wife Melissa of Franklin; brother, Buddy and wife Ashley of Madisonville; grandsons, Gus Welch and Cannon McVey of Madisonville and granddaughter, Leah Welch of Madisonville and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many longtime friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Welch.
