Gerald L. Foster , of Longview, Texas, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, survived by sons, Barry Young Foster and Michael Vernard Foster; and grandchildren, Audrey Elizabeth Foster, Emily Arden Foster, Emily Grace Foster, Katie Nicole Driggers and Sara Cheyenne Driggers; and predeceased by wife, Joan Grimes Foster; brother, Bill M. Foster; and parents, James Young Foster and Katie Morgan Foster.
Foster was born April 3, 1931, in Maud, Texas. After graduating from Talco High School in 1948, Foster entered the University of Houston, where he studied architecture until 1952, when he was drafted into the United States Air Force. After four years in the Air Force, Foster returned to the University of Houston for a final semester and then moved to Maud, Texas, to begin his career as an architect, working from an office in Texarkana, Texas.
In 1963, while working in Marshall, Texas, Foster met Joan Grimes, whom he married in 1965, with Barry and Michael soon to arrive in 1966 and 1967. For the next two decades, Foster owned and operated Gerald L. Foster and Associates, Inc. A.I.A. Architects, in Longview, Texas. At the time of his death, Foster was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle and cousin, as well as a dear friend to many.
The family will receive guests at Rader Funeral Home at 1617 Judson Road, Longview, Texas, Sunday, July 26, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. A graveside-only memorial service for Foster will be held in Rosewood Park Cemetery on Monday, July 27, 2009, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Center Ridge Cemetery Fund, P.O.
