Gerald Dillard Mullins
Gerald Dillard Mullins went home to be the Lord Tuesday, February 17, 2004. Dillard, as he was known by his friends and family died in a local nursing home of complications of pneumonia.
Mr. Mullins was the youngest son of Dr. Gerald C. and Veda Dillard Mullins. He was born in Clarksville, County, Texas on January 2, 1907. Dillard graduated 2nd in his class at Broken Bow, OK and went to Texas Tech in Lubbock one year, but had to drop out for lack of funds. He and his best friend signed up to go to Antwerp, Belgium on a trawler, working their way. Dillard met and courted a cute little lady, Ann Ruth Polk, and they were married February 1, 1929. He always told his children that that act caused the ?Great Depression?! To their marriage was born four girls and their only son, Gerald ?Jerry? Mullins, the light of his life.
During World War II, Dillard worked in the shipyard building destroyers. He went to school at night to learn the electrical trade. After the war he went to work for Humble pipeline in Houston. He was sent to Longview in 1948 to work here, and brought the family. After working several years here, he was transferred to Houston and later to Mexia, Texas; where later he and Ruth settled down to retirement. Then a few years later moved back to Longview to live.
Dillard was a Christian. He served as an elder in the Church of Christ many years, and was a great Bible teacher. His children and grandchildren remember his great stories! Dillard was preceded in death by his parents, his eight siblings; his son, Jerry; his wife of 53 years, Ruth. In 1985 he married his childhood friend, Lois McIntire, who passed away in 1993.
We?re thankful for his life, and that the Lord has taken him home.
Those surviving; his daughters, Patricia Gregory of Benson, AZ; Wilda Coffman and husband, Ted of Longview; Phyllis Boone of Mexia, TX and Pamela Little and husband, Lanny, also of Mexia, TX. There are 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Friday, February 20, 2004 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, with T. A. Coffman officiating with burial following at Lakeview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, February 19, 2004 from 6 until 8 PM.
