George "JR" Usery
Funeral services for George "JR" Usery, 84, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May18, 2013 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Usery passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, May 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He was the youngest of 13 children, born December 24, 1928 in Athens, Alabama to Alma Carter and George Jackson Usery. In 1960, he moved to Texas where he met and married the love of his life, Ruby Bruner. Along the way, he became the proud father of 6 children he adored.
Mr. Usery worked for Pinecrest Country Club for 44 years, until he retired. An avid gardener and music lover, he never met a stranger or missed the opportunity to make someone laugh, but above all, he loved his family and cherished every moment with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter, Peggy Ferguson; and 8 sisters and 3 brothers.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Ruby Bruner Usery of Longview; sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Cherie Usery of Hallsville, Marty Usery of Longview and Steve and Karen League of Gilmer; daughter, Teresa Morrison of Longview; grandchildren, Jamie Russell, Brittany Jolly, Emily Ferguson, Kelly Brook, Shawn Robinson, Larry Robinson, Marty W. Usery, Jason Usery, Mark Usery, Cody League, Cory League, Misty Hamilton, Jenny Blevins and Carly Navarro; great grandchildren, Micheal, Alexis, Mia, C.J., Chloe, Maggie, Alex and "2 on the way"; sister, Louise Hicks of Mississippi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
