George Griffin Rutledge, Sr.
George Griffin Rutledge, Sr., 66, died peacefully in his sleep on August 11, 2006. He was born to Laura Y. and Charles Don Rutledge on March 16, 1940, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Rutledge graduated from Little Rock Tech High School in 1957, and was employed by Western Electric now Lucent until his retirement in 1989. He married Mary Ann Stout on December 21, 1963, and his employment brought the family to Longview in 1971. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Longview Masonic Lodge #404 and the Sharon Shriner?s Temple in Tyler.
George is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Ann Rutledge of Longview; his two sons, George Griffin Rutledge, Jr. and wife Brenda of Hernando, Mississippi, and John Lamar Rutledge of Longview; his grandson, Cody of Hernando, Mississippi; his special niece, Laura Rutledge of Fredricksburg, Virginia; brother, Gary Rutledge, sister Dorothy Utley, and sister-in-law, Glenda Rutledge, all of Little Rock, Arkansas; several other nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends.
For the last 19 years, George and Mary Ann have cared for their son, John, who suffered a closed head injury in 1986. One of his favorite pastime?s was taking John riding in his van.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 14, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to St. Jude Children?s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
