Funeral Services for George Edwin Edd Young, 82,  of Longview, will be held at Noon Saturday, January 5, 2002 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1617 Judson Road, with Danny Manuel and Dean Robertson officiating. Mr. Young was born on October 5, 1919.  He was a native of Hallsville, Texas.  He was active in the athletic program at Hallsville High School.  He was inducted into the Hallsville Bobcat Hall of Fame in 1965.  He was baptized into Christ in 1935 and a member of the Hallsville Church of Christ where he served as an Elder from 1994 to 2000.  He Joined the United States Air Force in June of 1941.  During his 4 ½ years in the Air Force he stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, Delgado Central Trades School, Jackson Mississippi, New Guinea, The Phillipines, and I.E. Shima.  While stationed in Jackson, Mississippi, he married Byna Bass on August 23, 1943 and lived there 11 months before being sent overseas for 17 months.  He was discharged as a Master Sgt. January 4, 1946.  He was employed with the Texas Highway Department from February 1, 1946 and retired in 1976.  He served as manager of a Little League Baseball team  and president of the Hallsville Little League.  He served as a member of the Hallsville area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from 1971 to 1974.  He was a Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the ''H'' association.  He served as minister of the  Waskom Church of Christ from 1962 to 1970 and was the minister of the Lilley?s Chapel Church of Christ in Morris County from November 1970 to 1982.  After the death of his first wife Byna in 1990, he married Opal Downs on April 9, 1994.
A loving, husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Young was preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Young, mother, Cora Kinzy, and wife Byna Bass Young.  He is survived by his wife, Opal Downs Young of Longview, son, Dr. Thomas E. Young of Dothan, Alabama, daughters and sons-in-law, Becky Young Koford and Kenneth Koford of Lufkin.  Karen Downs Morrison and Eugene Morrison of Dallas, and Camilla Downs of Galveston, grandchildren and their spouses, Keith and Wendy Koford of Gainesville, Florida, Karen and James LaCombe of Lufkin, John and Danyelle Meyer of Longview, and Kellie Koford of Lufkin, great grandchildren, Kayla LaCombe of Lufkin, Robert Koford and Elizabeth Koford of Gainesville, Florida and Brooks and Bailey Meyer of Longview. His brother, James C. Young of ElCamp, Texas and sister, Mary Hoggard of Houston.  And a number of nieces and nephews
