George A. Mason, Sr.
Funeral services for George A. Mason, Sr. 76, of Hallsville will be held at Ten O'clock AM Tuesday August 5, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Shinia Kelsey officiating. Internment will follow in Noonday Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Mason passed away Saturday August 2, 2 008 in Longview.
He was born January 25, 1932 in Hallsville, Texas to William A. and Gertrude Croft Mason, who preceded him in death, having been diagnosed with Scoliosis, or curvature of the spine, James F. Taylor Lodge No. 169 made application for me to the Scottish Rite Institute in Dallas, Texas, and was accepted for treatment. The Lodge provided transportation to the Institute. George was treated with braces and exercises for many years. George has spent over 70 years trying to repay some of the love and kindness they bestowed on me.
He attended Hallsville Schools, participated in all sports activities, and was voted the most outstanding "bench warmer." He was also Senior Class President, having graduated in 1949. He then attended Kilgore College from 1949-1951, Attended Texas A&M with a Major in Petroleum Engineering.
Made application with Eastman, and Core Laboratories accepted with both firms, worked for Core Laboratories for 10 years, doing a variety of analysis on samples from drilling wells. In 1956 transferred to San Antonio as lab manager and Engineer in charge. Advised to develop Lone Star Producing Company as our number one client. The first sales call made to Lone Star office, where he met his future wife. In 6 months, we were married on August 11, 1956.
He worked for Marshall Exploration for one year, the Hinton Production for 16 years, and did consulting work for Sonat Exploration and Enron Oil and Gas and retired in 1998.
He has been a Mason for over 50 years, as Secretary of James Taylor Masonic Lodge #169, and they will have the Masonic Rites on Tuesday.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Barbara of Hallsville; daughters, Kim Mason Faires of Hallsville; Ann Michelle Mason and son George A. Mason, Jr, and wife Sally of Castle Rock, Colorado five grandchildren, Michael Chad Mason, Taylor Faires, Nolan Lee Mason, Lily Ashton Mason Christopher George Mason.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday August 4, 2008 from 7pm-9pm,
