Geneva Nell Dunnavant Porter's Obituary
On February 18, 2024, Geneva Nell Dunnavant Porter reached up and took the hands of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, while surrounded by her family.
Geneva was born on June 16, 1938, in Gladewater, Texas, to Asa Jackson and Carrie Evelyn (Satterwhite-Whatley) Dunnavant. For many years, she was an active member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile where she served as Worthy Matron and held several leadership positions. Professionally, she enjoyed a long and respected career at Oliver Furniture Store in Greggton, Sears and Roebuck, and Telco Credit Union. During her life, she had many friends and was continually serving others. Geneva was known for being a kind and loving soul and was especially fond of her cats, who were her “babies” and comfort.
After retirement, Geneva and her husband, Coy (Harold Porter), built a mountain home in the old mining town of Alpine, Colorado. There, she enjoyed many years exploring the mountains with friends and family who would visit. Her favorite past time was enjoying the view of Mount Antero and the abundant wildlife seen from her living room window.
Geneva loved the Lord and loved serving Him through serving others. In later years, she enjoyed fellowship and service with her sweet friends at Lake of the Pines Baptist Church in Avinger, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Valton Tincher, a brother, Jack Dunnavant, two sisters, Louise Richardson and Maxine Rice. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Harold Lee Porter (Coy), nieces who were like daughters, Valerie Huffhines Burge and Sunni Huffhines Nix, sister, Charlotte Huffhines, step-children Angela DeBusk, Marsha Fuller, Aaron Porter, Leann Porter, and many more nieces, nephews extended family, and friends.
All friends and family are welcome to join her graveside service, 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Grace Hill Cemetery in Longview, Texas. There will also be a visitation for all the same day (2/22/24), 1:00 PM at Lake of the Pines Baptist Church in Avinger, Texas, with Celebration of Life Service immediately following at 2:00 PM. Lake of the Pines Baptist Church is located at 9046 FM 729, Avinger, Texas 75630.
