Geneva Louise Berry George (Jean)'s Obituary
Services for Geneva Louise Berry George (Jean) will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church in Longview with Rev. Kendal Land officiating. There will be a gathering held at Noon at the church in Grace Hall before the services that will include a light lunch. Burial will be held at Rosewood Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rader Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday evening September 9, 2014, at Rader Funeral Home on Judson Rd in Longview, TX.
Mrs. George was born September 22, 1931, in Marshall, TX. After graduating from high school in 1951, she moved to Oklahoma City where she entered Western Union School. After graduation she traveled as a relief manager. After spending two years in Minden, Louisiana she transferred to Longview and worked here for 20 years. When Western Union closed, she worked as an outside employee for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for several years. She then went to work at First Presbyterian Church as an administrative assistant for 24 years, retiring in August 2001.
In 1955, she married James Sinclair George of Marshall, who preceded her in death on November 6, 2000, after 45 years of marriage.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Robert Mitchell of Union Grove, and their children, Baxter, Brittany and Andrea; and Cindy and Chris Snapp, and her children, Mallory and Haley Littlejohn. Two stepchildren she raised as her own, Elizabeth and James, Jr. Elizabeth Seale and her three children, Tricia Maxfield, and her daughter Bailey Davis, and Allison Seale and John Maxfield, and his son Coby Maxfield of Van. James S. George Jr., of Dallas has two children, Asher and Mary Grace.
Geneva has one stepsister, Anne Slusher-Morton, two half sisters, Mae Coleman and Linda Waldrop of Marshall, one half brother, James L. Berry Jr. and his wife Evelyn, of California.
Mrs. George was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtie Mae Ehrig Berry and her father, James Lanier Berry.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Longview or Hearts Way Hospice of Longview.
