Gene Sewell's Obituary
Gene Alan Sewell, 70, of Gladewater, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on September 24, 2025. Born September 27, 1954, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, Gene was the beloved son of the late Allie Lee Sewell and Elva Harper Sewell.
Gene proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, completing two tours in Vietnam. His time in service reflected his lifelong dedication to courage, honor, and resilience.
After his military service, Gene built a life centered on family, faith, and simple joys. He married the love of his life, Karen Anne Leath Sewell, with whom he shared a devoted 42 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and partnership. Together, they raised their son, Samuel Alan Sewell, who was Gene's pride and joy. Gene later welcomed his daughter-in-law, Miranda Moore Sewell, into the family, and found immeasurable happiness as "Pawpaw" to his cherished grandchildren, Jenna and Jasper Sewell.
A man who found peace in the outdoors, Gene loved hunting and spending time in nature. He had a deep appreciation for history and could often be found sharing stories, reflecting on the past, or enjoying quiet moments with his family. To those who knew him, Gene was a steady presence-loving, dependable, and always ready with a kind word or gentle humor.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; his son, Samuel, and daughter-in-law, Miranda; his grandchildren, Jenna and Jasper; his sister, Elaine Carpenter; his brother, Lyndon Sewell, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allie Lee and Elva Harper Sewell, his sister, Bonnie Starrett, and brother Callie Sewell.
Gene's greatest legacy is the love he shared with his family and the values he instilled in them. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, Pawpaw, brother, and friend whose life was a testament to strength, sacrifice, and love.
Services to honor and celebrate Gene's life will be held at Rosewood Park Mausoleum Chapel at 11 am on September 30, 2025, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be provided in recognition of his proud service as a United States Marine.
