Gary Leon Seager's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Leon Seager, aged 75, on December 2, 2024. He passed away peacefully at home.
Gary Seager was born on February 15, 1949, in Newton, IA, to Ralph and Ruth Seager. He grew up in Winterset, IA, where he graduated high school. Later, Gary pursued theology, earning a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Olivet Nazarene College in Kankakee, IL, and a Master’s in Divinity and Theology from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO. Gary dedicated his life to preaching, spending 37 years in ministry and serving churches in North Dakota, South Dakota, New Mexico, and Texas.
On July 26, 1975, Gary and Kay were married, and together they shared 49 beautiful years of marriage. They adopted one child, Deanna Seager, and fostered many children over the years. During their marriage, Gary and Kay enjoyed traveling the country with friends and family.
In addition to his professional achievements, Gary was known for rock hunting and his collection of The New Yorker magazine. He also contributed to the Ministerial Association and the Lion’s Club, leaving an indelible mark on the community. Those who knew him will always remember his ability to spin a tale of his many adventures.
Gary is survived by his wife, Kay Seager; his daughter, Deanna Seager; and granddaughter, Raqui Hinkley. He is also survived by his foster daughters, Denise Ryan and her son, Joey Hockert, and Vickie Lee; two brothers, Ron Seager and his wife, Jeanie, and Randy Seager and his wife, Deb; 12 nephews: Kyle Seager, Dirk Seager, Kit Seager, Jimmy Peacock, Teddy Peacock, Billy Peacock, Jack Peacock, Drew Peacock, Jerry Wayne Peacock, Donald Gene Peacock, Jeremy Peacock, and Geoffrey Brockman; and 5 nieces: Heidi Bowles, Clarissa Seager-Moore, Natalie Liedecke, Jennifer Brockman, and Cindy Harrah. Gary was predeceased by his mother, Ruth Marion Seager; his father, Reverend Ralph Leon Seager; his infant sister, Arita; and his infant brother, Donald.
Burial will be held on December 12, 2024, at 12 p.m. at Northwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Texarkana, TX. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Longview, TX on January 5, 2025, during the regular worship service, followed by fellowship.
Gary will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
