Gary Earl Hall, 58, of Longview, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, in Longview surrounded by his loving family after a courageous 5½-year battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd., Longview, TX 75601. Born November 24, 1953, in Alexandria, La., Gary was the eldest son of J.R. and Earlean Hall growing up in Simpson, La. He attended college and graduate school in Louisiana, receiving degrees in archaeology and geology, a profession that proved to be his true calling. After oil and gas positions across Texas, he settled in Marshall, Texas, for almost 20 years. Gary and his family called Humble, Texas, home for 7 years and returned to East Texas as residents of Longview in 2008. Gary was a member of Chalker Energy Partners of Houston since 2003, serving as Vice President of Geo Science, contributing expertise gained from over 30 years in the East Texas oil and gas industry. Gary loved his family and friends, often preparing delicious meals for loved ones. An avid outdoorsman, he most enjoyed a day outside centered around hunting and fishing. Gary was involved in several professional, civic and charitable organizations most notably he was the former president of the Marshall Jaycees and State Director, involved in local and state levels of the National Wild Turkey Federation, a member of AAPG and a board member of Perkins Partnership Ministries in Longview. He was preceded in death by his father, J. R. Hall. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 28 years, Debra Fletcher Hall of Longview; his daughters, Amy Hall and Jessie Hall; mother Earlene Hall of Simpson, La.; sister and brother-in-law, Esta and Al Trahan of Pineville, La.; and brother and sister-in-law, Don and Jaree Hall of Nashville, Ark.; and a host of other family members. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Pine Tree Home Health, Heart to Heart Hospice, Dr. Larry Frase and the staff of Texas Oncology, Good Shepherd Medical Center, and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
