Gary Allen's Obituary
Gary Allen, age 58, resident of Longview, TX passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on July 6, 2020 while on vacation in Florida. He was born August 5, 1961 in Ft. Stockton, Texas to Donald Sam Allen and Billie Louise Smith Allen, the youngest of four children. Gary grew up in far southwest Sanderson, Texas, where he learned to hunt, ride and do ranch work with friends and relatives. Basketball was his favorite sport in high school. In his early 20’s he moved to East Texas where he started his lifelong career as a machinist at Remtex in Longview.
Gary always loved the outdoors and embraced it in east Texas, as he had in west Texas. Whether it was fishing, dove or duck hunting, deer or squirrel hunting, or floating a river, he loved it. His favorite pastime was shooting sporting clays, where he won 1st place at his last competitive protection shoot on June 20th. He also shot his 12th perfect 25 on the 5-stand his last time to shoot on Father’s Day.
Most important of all, Gary was a steadfast believer in Jesus Christ and modeled his life after Him. His love for the Lord was apparent by the way he loved and served his family. He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, Pop, step-dad, uncle, son, brother, and friend to many people. He was gentle, soft spoken, slow to anger, humble, kind, meek, patient, and had no enemies. He will be deeply missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have him in their life. We take comfort in knowing he lived his life like Jesus did and that he is with Him now in Heaven.
Gary is survived by his wife, Laura; his mother, Billie Allen of Abilene, Texas, his son Jace Allen and wife Becca, son Cole Allen and wife Ali, stepsons Shaun Butler and wife Brook, and Seth Butler and wife Julie, and 9 grandchildren, all of White Oak, Texas; sister Vicki (Allen) Deveny and husband Tim of Abilene, and brothers Steve Allen and wife Carla of Fredericksburg and Tom Allen and wife Judy, of Abilene, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
