Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a great friend to many people. He was a man of highest integrity, faithful to God in all things, and he loved to hunt birds with his son, grandson and friends near Goldthwaite, Texas. He and his twin brother were survivors of the great Mississippi River flood of 1927, where, as babies, they floated in a basket on the high waters, prodded along by their older siblings. Fred was reared on the Wavertree Plantation in Tensas Parish, where he and Burton raised cows, helped on the farm and got into a little trouble from time to time. Fred served in the U S Navy during the end of World War II, serving on the U S S Duluth as it left China at the end of the war.
Interment will be held at Rosewood Park Cemetery at 12:30 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2013, with a memorial service to follow at First United Methodist Church, Longview at 2:00 p.m.
The family extends their grateful thanks to the members of the Henry Foster Sunday School Class and the staff of the Plaza at Edgemere in Dallas, where Fred had received excellent care and assistance for the past four years.
