FREDERICK R HAMMON Jr.
Long time Alaska resident and recent Texas resident Frederick R Hammon Jr., 71, passed away suddenly Dec. 29th at Good Shepard Hospital with his wife and daughter by his side.
Per his wishes a wake will be held at Longview Eagles Lodge, 1206 Alpine, Saturday Jan. 5th at 7pm. A future wake will be held at Soldotna Elks Lodge, Soldotna, Alaska, where Fred was a life-time member.
His cremated remains will be scattered in Cook Inlet, Alaska, where he enjoyed his favorite hobby of halibut fishing.
Fred was born in Easton, Maryland, Nov. 27, 1941. His Marine service was from 1963 to 1965 with his last duty assignment in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The motto "once a Marine always a Marine" was a perfect way to describe him.
His service station ownerships began in Phoenix, Arizona, in the mid 70's and in 1976 he purchased Soldotna Chevron in Soldotna, Alaska, providing full service to all who came into his station. After 30 years he retired to Lake Cherokee, Texas.
Fred was preceded in death by his father Frederick R Hammon Sr., his mother Ruth Ellison, his brother George Ellison and his previous wife Beverly Hammon.
He leaves his best friend and spouse of 19 1/2 years Gloria Hammon, his four daughters Cathy Miller and husband Richard of Richmond, Indiana, and grandson Bradley and granddaughter Brianna, daughter Wendy Johnson and husband Tim of Redmond, Washington, and grandsons Nick, Silas and Thadd, daughter Heidi Moder and husband Mark of Bellingham, Washington, and grandsons Cameron and Drew, daughter Melinda and husband Richard Carlyle of Diana, Texas, and grandson Destin and granddaughters Chelsee and Christiana, brothers Cliff and Sonny, sisters Libby and Mary, numerous nieces and nephews and many, many good friends in Texas and Alaska. All will miss him very much.
