Freda Marie Williams
Services celebrating the life of Freda Marie Williams will be held on Thursday December 8, 2005 at 12 O?clock noon in the Oakland Heights Baptist Church Sanctuary with Pastor Tom Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Minden, Texas under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Williams passed away Monday December 5, 2005 in Longview.
Born in Rusk County, Texas, on May 10, 1934, Freda graduated from Minden Texas High School in 1952. Continuing her education at Stephen F. Austin State University where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society, she received her BA degree in 1955 from SFA. She married Paul Williams on April 30, 1954, and later with her husband to Houston where she became Assistant Registrar and then Director of Admissions at South Texas Junior College.
When the couple moved back to Longview in 1970, Freda became a volunteer for a number of local charitable organizations. Her memberships included the Longview Women?s Forum, Longview Christian Women?s Club, and the Longview Story League, all of which she also served as an officer. A talented musician, at various times Freda served as church pianist for Parkway Baptist Church, Valley View Baptist Church, and the First Christian Church of Gladewater. She was most recently a member of the Oakland Heights Baptist Church in Longview where she was active in the Hope Sunday School Class.
Freda is survived by her brother-in-law, Zack Williams and wife Eugenia of Longview; brother-in-law, Harris P. Williams and wife Darlene of Clay Center, Kansas; sister-in-law, Evangeline Sledge of Henderson; sister-in-law, Ita Akin of Henderson; sister-in-law Katie Bohrer and husband Hugh of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia; and sister-in-law, Corinne Lee of Corsicana. A number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends also survive.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 6, 2005 from 6pm until 8pm at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
