Freda Hurt Kimble's Obituary
After a long and happy life, Freda Katherine Hurt Kimble, former resident of Longview passed away at the age of 92 on July 27, 2002 in Tyler, Texas. Freda was born to E. S. Hurt, a salesman, and Cora Hurt, an artist, on September 6, 1909, in St. Paul, Virginia. When Freda was in her early 20's, her family moved to Kingsport, Tennessee, where she joined Tennessee Eastman Compnay as secretary to the purchasing agent. on September 8, 1934, she was married to John S. Kimble, a young chemical engineer, from Illniois, who was also employed with Tennessee Eastman. Freda then became a full-time homemaker and two daughters were born to the union. In 1951, the family moved to Texas, when John was transferred to Longview to assist in building and operating the plant for Texas Eastman Company, a newly formed subsidiary of Eastman Kodak. At First United Methodist Church Longview, Freda was a member of the Turner Sunday School Class, and the Choir, served one term on the administrative board, and played the piano for the adult and children's sunday school classes. Freda was also a member of the Longview Music Club, Good Shepherd Auxiliary, the Forum, Pinecrest Country Club, Oak Forest Country Club, sustaining member of the Longview Junior League, member of the Federation of Women's Clubs, PTA, Hughey Crest Garden Club, Longview Garden Club, and the Summit Club.In June of 2001, Freda and John moved to Tyler to be near their daughter and to reside at the Grand Court, a retirement community. Survivors are Freda's husband of 67 years, John S. Kimble; sister, Ruth Hurt Beltz of Merritt Island, Florida; daughters, Jeanette West of Greencastle, Indiana, and Kay Toole and husband Ray Toole of Whitehouse, Texas; grandchildren, Tracey Miller and Husband Mark Miller of Allen, Texas, John Toole of Austin, Texas, Alyson West of Melbourne, Australia, Rebecca West of Raleigh, North Carolina; and great granddaughter, Haleigh Crews of Raleigh, North Carolina. The family would like to thank Freda's long-time friends in Longview, her new friends at Garden Estates of Tyler formerly the Grand Court and the Doctors, nurses and staffs of both Trinity Mother Frances Hospital and Hospice of East Texas for their caring concern during this difficult time. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Longview or to East Texas Hospice of Tyler, where she was allowed to pass to her new life in peace and love with dignity and grace. Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, August 2nd at the First United Methodist Church in Longview with Reverends Dan Miller and Bill Cunningham officiating. Burial will be at Rosewood Park in Longview. Rader Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday afternoon 3-5 PM.
