Frank Darrel Ryan Sr.'s Obituary
Frank Darrell Ryan, Sr., of longview, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014.
Services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Rader Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Gilmore officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Longview.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 27 at the funeral home.
Mr. Ryan was born September 7, 1938, in Tarrant County to James O. and Nancy D. Ryan. Upon graduating from Queen City High School, he joined the United States National Guard. Serving at Ft. Hood in Killeen, he was the recipient of numerous medals for marksmanship.
Throughout his years of employment, Mr. Ryan worked as the supervisor of heating and air for Neiman Marcus; the Texas and Pacific Railway; sold insurance in Jefferson; worked in a supervisory position in the oil and gas industry in Demison; and worked as a supervisor at Continental Can in Longview, continuing in his position following the company’s buyout by Crown Cork and Seal. Upon his retirement, he was employed by the packaging company as a consultant, traveling the world and assisting in the construction of new facilities.
Mr. Ryan and Dalynda Averitt united in marriage in 1960 and to this union three children were born, Dawn D. Powell, Frank D. Ryan, Jr. and Brandon L. Ryan. In 1997, he married Judy D. Shaw, and welcomed into his family two step-sons, Jeff and Steve Shaw.
Mr. Ryan enjoyed the outdoors, taking up golf, hunting and his favorite pastime, fishing. He enjoyed shooting pool and built and drove sandrail dune buggies. He also constructed beautiful pieces of furniture, which will be enjoyed for generations to come.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Ryan of Longview; one daughter, Dawn Powell and husband Ted of Bettie; Two sons, Frank Ryan Jr. and wife Jana of Tatum, and Brandon Ryan and wife Denise of Latch; two step-sons, Steve Shaw of Longview and Jeff Shaw with wife Andrea of White Oak; two granddaughters, Megan Sparks and husband Adam of Sibley, LA. And BreAnna Kiraly and husband James of Marshall; one grandson Garrett Ryan of Tatum; two step-granddaughters, Sarah Shaw and Kristen Whittington, both of Longview; great-grandson Xander Blaze Sparks of Sibley; great-graddaughter Hadley Ann Kiraly of Marshall; two step-great-grandchildren, Michael and Harper Collins; two brothers, Jimmy Roland “Rod” Ryan and Charles Michael Ryan and Wife Dottie, all of Uncertain; and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
