Funeral services for Frank Mullen Bufkin, Jr., 74, of Longview will be held at 10 AM Friday morning, August 8, 2003 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1617 Judson Road, with the Reverend Dwayne Beaty officiat-ing. Burial will follow in Hallsville Cemetery.
Mr. Bufkin was born on August 30, 1928 in Hazelhurst, MS., to Frank Sr., and Lucille Bufkin. He passed away on Tuesday afternoon, August 5, 2003, in a Longview hospital.
He attended high school in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and played football at Delta State College in Mississippi, before being drafted into the Army during his senior year. After serving his country during the Korean War, he returned home to finish his education and received his teaching degree from the College of Southern Mis-sissippi. He began his career in coaching football and baseball in Mississippi and Louisiana before retiring and moving to Texas in 1963 to become a poultry farmer.
A loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Mr. Bufkin was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Anne Holland Bufkin, and brother, James Thomas Bufkin. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Jim Soppe of Rowlett; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Derrick and Sharon Bufkin of Longview, and Frank M., III, and Suzi Bufkin of Longview; grandchildren, James Frank Willis, Thomas Derrick Bufkin, Jr., Vaughan Mullen Bufkin, Dayton Thomas Bufkin, Jason T. Moore, Sarah M. Roster, Tracy Soppe, Shannon Stamper, James Thomas Soppe, Daisy Suzanne Soppe, Coletin Bernard Soppe; great grandchildren, Estella Roster, Alex Hutchison, Austin Stamper; sisters, Grace Bufkin Smith of Lockhart, Dorothy Bufkin Bagby of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and numerous nieces, neph-ews, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 PM Thursday evening, August 7, 2003 at the funeral home.
