Frank Jerome Smith's Obituary
Frank Jerome Smith, age 84 went home to his Maker on January 8, 2010. He passed away peacefully at his home with his wife of over 60 years, Jane Winzer Smith by his side.
He was born on February 13, 1925 in Upshur County, Texas. He was the son of Lavada and O.F. Smith and Mamie Smith. Following graduation from the Union Grove high school, he joined the US Army and served in Italy during World War II. He then obtained his degree from the University of Texas in Austin.
He was retired from Eastman Kodak as Controller where he was employed for over 35 years. He spent his retirement enjoying ranching, gardening, landscaping and spending time with family. He was a long time member of the Oakland Heights Baptist Church of Longview. He volunteered for United Way and the YMCA.
He is survived by his wife Jane, and sons, Michael J. Smith and wife Mary Bob, and Mark W. Smith and wife Diane, all of Longview. His grandchildren include Jennifer Rose Smith of Austin and Mary Winzer Van Delden and husband, Stuart, of Houston. He is also survived by a brother, Virgil Smith and sister, Alma Duncan, and close friends, Patty and Max Wilson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Oscar Buddy Smith.
The family invites friends and relatives to visitation Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. A memorial will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Rosewood Park Mausoleum. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, 4144 N. Central Expy, Suite 750, Dallas Texas 75204-9627, or Newgate Mission, 207 S. Mobberly, Longview Texas 75602 are requested in lieu of flowers.
