Frank Craig's Obituary
Franklin Carl Craig, aged 60 years of Hallsville, Texas passed away Sunday December 19th, 2010 at Good Shepherd Medical Center after suffering a massive stroke.
Frank was born January 1, 1950 in Longview, Texas. He was married to his high school sweetheart Betty Curry Craig September 16, 1969. He graduated with an Associate Degree from Kilgore College in 1970 and began working for the City of Hallsville Water Department where he continued to work for the remainder of his life as Water and Sewer Superintendent.
As a teenager, he became a member of the Hallsville Volunteer Fire Department in the mid 1960's, serving as fire chief in the early 1980's. He also served as the first president of the Harrison County Firefighter's Association. After retiring from his position as fire chief, Frank was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award for his accomplishments. He also received a Citizen of the Year award from the Hallsville Chamber of Commerce and was designated "Millennium Man" of Hallsville.
Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, repairing a wide variety of things, offering advice when asked, and creating mischief whenever possible. He was an avid outdoors man who loved hunting and fishing in his spare time.
Frank is survived by his wife Betty Craig of Hallsville, daughters Laura Craig Bridges and her husband Jay Bridges of Kerrville, and Carla Craig Standly of Longview, granddaughters Marlene and Kayla Woodall of Kerrville and Courtney Nicole Standly of Longview, and honorary granddaughter Ashlee Crutchfield and Frank's sister, Ruby Faye Green Parker of Shreveport, and her sons Mark and Philip Parker, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, several cousins, and a host of friends and acquaintances who will miss him dearly.
Frank was preceded in death by his father, Carl Craig, his sister Martha Dell Green McLaughlin, and his mother, Myrtle Texoma Huffman Green Craig. A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 6-8 pm at Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, Longview, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, December 23 at First Baptist Church in Hallsville officiated by Deryl Jones and a eulogy read by Billy Hestand, with burial to follow at Hallsville Cemetery. A reception will be held at First Baptist Church in the Activity Hall following burial.
