Francis Thor Hanson's Obituary
A memorial service for Colonel Francis Thor Hanson, 88, of Longview will be 10 AM Saturday, May 14, 2005, at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, with Pastor Wade Duck officiating. A full military service will be held at the graveside in Madison, WI. In July. Col. Hanson passed away peacefully at a local nursing center on May 9, 2005.
Col. Hanson was born in Camp Douglas, Wisconsin to Thor and Sadie Hanson on March 20, 1917. He moved to his home of Madison, WI at the age of 10 where he later raised his own family. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1937 and played a primary role in establishing the Wisconsin Air National Guard in 1938. He served in the Pacific Theater throughout the US involvement in World War II. There he met his beloved wife, Frances, an army nurse, and they were married in Brisbane, Australia, on April 4, 1944. He served in Europe during the Korean conflict and then returned to Madison to become Chief of Supply for the Wisconsin Air National Guard, a position he held until his retirement in 1977 after 40 years of service to his country. Following the death of his wife in 1994, he moved to Longview, Texas to be near his children and grandchildren.
Colonel Hanson is survived by a son, Dr. Thomas Hanson, of Beaverton, Oregon; son-in-law and daughter, Robert and Mary Bohn, of White Oak, Texas; step grandsons and their wives: Jeff and Laurie Bohn and Robby and Courtni Bohn, all of Shreveport, LA; step granddaughter. Angela Bohn of Dallas, and 2 grandsons: Aaron Bohn of Galveston, and Joey Bohn of White Oak, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to White Oak Baptist Church, Heartsway Hospice, or the American Kidney Fund.

Also a special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at the Clairmont and Heartsway Hospice for all your loving care in his final days.?
