Frances Liston Booth's Obituary
Frances Liston Booth passed away peacefully on April 4, 2010 at the age of 76 after a courageous battle with cancer. Frances lived a remarkable life filled with what was dearest to her, family and God. She was born Ella Frances Monigold, the youngest child of Genevieve Langley and Leonard Jackson Monigold, on October 3, 1933 in Marshall, Texas. After graduating as valedictorian from Marshall High School in 1952, Frances attended North Texas University. On September 3, 1955, Frances married Alfred Eugene Liston. Raised in Marshall, Frances and Gene established their home in Longview. They had one son, Thomas Walter "Pat" Liston. Gene preceded Frances in death in 1979. Frances married Talmadge Early Booth on April 15, 1983. He preceded her in death in 2006.
Frances was an active member of First United Methodist Church for many years. She served on the sacristy committee there for 23 years, was past president of the Thelma Morgan Sunday School Class, and past president of the Friendship Bible Study Club. She was also actively involved in the Longview community. She was a former secretary of the Longview Beautification Association Board, as well as past president of the Shakespeare Club, Junior Literary Club of Longview, and the Magnolia Garden Club. As a granddaughter of a confederate veteran, Frances was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was also a registered member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Frances loved her family very much and enjoyed planning the annual Monigold Family Christmas Luncheons each year. She always had jokes or puns and funny surprises for some family member. Her dedication to her family was highlighted in the poem and series of family remembrances she authored, called "Keeper of the Candles".
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene Liston; husband, Talmadge E. Booth; one brother, Jackson Monigold; and two sisters, Genevieve Monigold Bolin and Maudie Monigold Hintz. She is survived by her son, Thomas "Pat" Liston and his wife, Karen Martin Liston; two step-daughters, Victoria Booth Bingham and Leanne Booth McCarty and her husband, Daniel McCarty; two step-sons, Robert Booth and his wife Terri, and Lee Booth and his wife Hollie; plus ten grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Frances Liston Booth will be at the Rader Funeral Home in Longview on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Longview on Wednesday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m. A private burial service will be held at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Panola, Texas, in the afternoon. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
