F. Laverne Ford's Obituary
Laverne Ford, 84, went to be with her savior and join her loving husband on September 25, 2022. Frances Laverne Ford was born on July 20, 1938 to Helen (Gustine) Pursley and Troy (Jean) W. Fountain in Shreveport, Louisiana. Laverne graduated from Fairpark High School in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Laverne met the love of her life, John David Ford, in Marshall Texas and they were married on September 24, 1955 in Durant Oklahoma. Laverne and John lived in Marshall Texas when they were first married and made their home in Longview Texas. They retired in Harleton Texas and moved back to Longview in 2018.
Laverne was the controller for their business Ford Masonry but also was a real estate agent early in her career. She worked for years in the office of Anvil Products and worked in sales at Crosby-Lebus Manufacturing for many years. She was an executive assistant at Designs to Enjoi, a manager at Harleton Water Supply and was a manager at Blake Furniture before retiring. She was a master of many positions and was the bookkeeper for Jeanette Wood’s Twirler Doll’s and a tax return specialists for many.
Laverne was a devoted wife and mother and always managed to get seven kids to their baseball, football, twirling and track practices and events while working full time and keeping everyone fed and happy. We don’t know how she managed to do it all! For years she and John were on the CB radio and her cb name was Mother Hubbard! Oh the fun they had! Laverne had her pilot’s license and traveled with John on many trips with friends and family.
Her passion was cooking and she loved trying out all the recipes and new gadgets while watching her favorite chefs teach a new recipe on TV. Her children would call her all the time to ask how to cook a certain recipe. She and John were members of Lone Oak Baptist church for many years and continued their devotion as members of their beloved prayer group with Brother Ron & Jean Hardman.
Laverne is survived by her children Pam & Pete Dubose, John & Glenda Ford, Troy & Penny Ford, Patti & Dan Rogers, Reagan & Kathy Ford, Scarlett McGee and James Ford. She has a lot of other’s who called her “Mom”. She had 16 grandchildren, Corey & Bridget Jordan, Jody & Bridgett Jordan, Jesse Dubose, Halei (Ethan) Dubose, Heather Ford, Amber Ford, Joe (Chelsea) Ford, Crystal & Chris Redd, Brandon (Christi) Ford, Deric Crow, Ashley Fergeson, Briley Ford, Jack Magee, Jillian Magee, Jori (Schaefer) Prince, and Jami Magee. She had 19 Great Grandchildren and many who called her “Nana”. She is also survived by her brother Bill (Robin) Fountain, sisters Christine (Adam) Hyman, Jeanette (Bobby) Hill, and sister n law Sue (Howard) Allen, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen & Gus Pursley, Troy & Jean Fountain, grandson Jesse Stuart Dubose, and her beloved husband John David Ford, Sr. and many family and friends.
