Frances Elizabeth Betsy Amos' Obituary
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Betsy Amos at 10:00 a.m.
on Saturday, October 11 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Union Grove officiated by Rev. Fr. Jones Jayara. Interment will follow at the Union Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Betsy died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 8th. She will be greatly missed by all of her many friends and family who loved her dearly.
She was born in Gilmer, Texas on December 29, 1947. After graduating as valedictorian from Union Grove High School, She attended Kilgore College where she was a Ranger Beauty and cheerleader. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin with a Bachelors and Masters degree in education. She taught school for 35 years and recently retired from Longview ISD.
Betsy is survived by her husband of 36 years, Joel Amos, and their two children, Jason Joel Amos of Tyler and Tammy Michelle Amos of Frisco. She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Jerry Smith. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Rosy and Tom Schweizer, sister Molly Turner, brother and sister-in-law Wayne and Rome Smith, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Murlene and Bobby Waits, nieces Amanda Ray, Leslie Finklea, Shannon Chatham, Sarah Deaton, and nephews Jeff Ray, Tim Turner, John Paul Smith, and Stacy Waits.
There will be a rosary at 6 p.m. followed by visitation at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening at Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1617 Judson Rd. Memorial donations may be made to the Longview Cancer Center, 1300 N. 4th ST, Longview, Texas 75601.
