Frances Cox's Obituary
Services for Frances Cox, 84, of Longview will be at noon, today, August 22, 2009, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Turner officiating. Interment will be 4 p.m. today, August 22, 2009, in Antioch Cemetery in Minden, Louisiana. Miss Cox died Thursday, August 20, 2009, in Longview. Visitation will be held 11 a.m., today, August 22, 2009, at the funeral home
She was born to William Jasper and Marcella Cox in the McIntyre community in Webster Parish, Louisiana. She graduated from Minden High School in Minden, Louisiana, and attended Louisiana Tech and Kilgore College. In 1944 she accepted a teaching position in Mason, Texas. At the end of the school year she returned to Kilgore College and later North Texas State College to continue her education. She taught in Talco, Texas from 1949 to 1953. She was employed by the Longview ISD from 1953 until her retirement in 1984. She taught at Northcutt Heights, Pegues Place and Bramlette Elementary Schools.
Frances was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Clyde Hall Sunday School Class, where she served as a teacher, Pioneers and United Methodist Women. She also was a member of the R.B. Levy Chapter UDC, DAR, Gregg County Retired Teachers Association, the Self Help for the Hard of Hearing, and the Colonial Dames. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Nancy who died in infancy; a brother, John Cox of Springhill, Louisiana; and sisters, Oneita Clark of Shreveport, Louisiana, Cecile Weir of Midland, Texas, Wilma Perryman of Longview, Texas, and Miriam Stutchman of Kilgore, Texas; and one niece, Judy Shaw of Houston, Texas.
She is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Rogers of Junction City, Louisiana, and Marcella Shaw of Bossier City, Louisiana; and thirteen nieces and nephews. They are Rebecca Martin of Longview, Woodrow Weir of Midland, Texas, John Cox of Shreveport, Louisiana, Curt Waldrop of Kilgore, Texas, Gerry Waldrop of Mineral, Virginia, Ellen Stutchman of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Carl Shaw of Bossier City, Louisiana, Jan Verrechia of Johnstown, Rhode Island, Nancy Holmes of Waco, Texas, Betty Rogers of Washington D.C., Wayne Rogers of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Billy Stutchman of Turnertown, Mississippi, Mike Stutchman of Nacogdoches, Texas, and David Rogers of Clear Lake, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Antioch Cemetery Fund c/o J. Cassells, 507 Fort Avenue, Minden, LA 71105.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to her devoted caregivers, Leslie Allen Parker and Dorothea Wamsley as well as the Summer Meadows staff and Heart'sWay Hospice.
