Flora Jean Milford's Obituary
Flora Jean Milford, 78, of Longview, Texas, passed away on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, in Longview. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, at Calvary Christian Tabernacle in Longview. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery in Timpson, Texas. Visitation for family and friends will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5 at Rader Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 9, 1939, in Houston, Texas, Flora Jean was the daughter of Sankie Lee and Mary Smith. She was the third of four children, with two older sisters, Letha Mae and Lucille, and one younger brother, Jimmy Lee.
She spent her early years in Houston where she attended Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church; it was there that she met her husband, James Harold Milford.
Jean and James married on July 9, 1960, and together they had three sons: Ricky, Tracy, and Darren. The couple relocated to Longview, Texas, in 1967 where they became active members of Calvary Christian Tabernacle, with Jean directing the choir for many years.
After raising three boys, in 1984 Jean became "Nana" to her granddaughter, Amanda. Two more grandchildren followed, Dustin and Conor, and both Nana and Papa took great pride in their three grandchildren.
Jean was known for her green thumb, love of gospel music, and her sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by her children, Ricky, Tracy and Darren Milford; grandchildren, Amanda Milford and husband Val, Dustin Rivers, and Conor Milford; sisters, Letha Mae Dacke and husband David, and Lucille Nix; brother, Jimmy Lee Smith and wife Roma; and several nieces and nephews.
