Graveside services for Everett Gilbert Andress, 95, of Longview will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at the Withers Family Cemetery in Buna, Texas. Burial will be under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. He died Sunday morning in a Longview nursing facility. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Everett was born March 29, 1908 in Brookeland, Texas to H.H. and Viola Andress. After 47 years with Magnolia Oil, later known as Mobil Oil, he retired as a foreman. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed his home life, both indoors and outdoors. Mr. Andress and his wife were very active in senior citizen activities. They attended senior citizen dances all over East Texas. He was very instrumental in establishing the Green Street Recreation Center in Longview. He was a Mason for 70 years, and was a member of the Longview Masonic Lodge #404 and was a Shriner. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Everett was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Lou Whitley; his parents; son-in-law, W.A. Phillips; 2 brothers and 1 sister. Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 76 years, Gladys Withers Andress of Longview; daughter, Gladys Ruth Phillips of Victoria, Texas; brother, Earl Andress of Canute, OK.; brother-in-law, J.W. Peckinpaugh of Buna; great grandchildren and their spouses, Pattie and Geoffrey Willbanks of Tyler, Bill and Medina Phillips of Victoria and John and Cindy Phillips of Austin; great grandchildren, John Wayne Phillips, James Allen Phillips, Jennifer Marie Phillips and Clinton Willbanks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
