Evelyn P. Williams
Funeral services for Evelyn P. Williams, 84, of Longview will be held at Two O?clock pm Saturday November 12, 2005 at the Oakland Heights Baptist Church with Reverends David Lawson and Tom Roberson officiating. Entombment will follow at the Lakeview Mausoleum under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mrs. Williams passed away Thursday November 10, 2005 in Longview.
She was born June 3, 1921 in Burnett, Texas to Reverend C.L. and Peggy Porter who preceded her in death. She was a retired teacher and librarian with the Longview Independent School District. She taught school at Jodie McClure Elementary School and then she became the librarian at Forest Park Junior High School. She was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church, where she was also the church librarian. Her father Reverend C. L. Porter was the founder of Mobberly Avenue Baptist Church, his daughter, Evelyn was the church organist as long as he was affiliated with the church, Evelyn and Edith Miller started the children?s choir at Mobberly.
She is survived by her daughter Judy Conway and husband Prentice of Shreveport, LA.; son, Michael Williams of Longview, TX. three grandchildren, Lance Williams, Kim Fox and Susan Conway, two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Caleb Fox, five sisters, Peggy Boyland Anderson and husband Roy of Longview, TX.; Faye Moore of Tyler, TX.; Eileen Scruggs of Tyler, TX.; Lou Boorman and husband John of Bullard, TX.; Gene Alexander and husband Wayne of La Crescento, CA.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L.T. ?Willie? Williams in April of 2005.
The family will receive friends Saturday November 12, 2005 from 1 pm until service time in the Parlor of Oakland Heights Baptist Church.
